Frequently Asked Questions

What Makes Invictus Stand Out?

Invictus focuses on holistic education and character development with an emphasis on leadership, multilingualism, technology, and highly effective Singapore Mathematics.

How Does It Differ from Larger Schools?

We operate as a distinct educational institution, prioritiszing top-tier education over extravagant extras. Our approach hinges on inventive models and facilities designed to maintain affordable tuition costs.

Outdoor Recreational Space?

Our recently established Dempsey Hill campus features outdoor playground spaces and a swimming pool, for educational and recreational activities.

What's the Homework Approach at Invictus?

The volume of homework assigned to students differs depending on their year group and age. For specific information, please consult the parent Handbooks. Our philosophy regarding homework is centred on extending concepts, fostering connections, and honing skills rather than merely burdening students with additional work.

Curriculum

We use the world renowned Cambridge International Primary Curriculum.

It is based on the UK national curriculum and has the added benefit of the global mindedness which is key to raising global citizens.

Both IPC and IB are inquiry based learning however the IPC sets the learning goals while the IB allows each school to decided their own learning goals. This can lead to varying degrees of a quality education. Since the IPC is standardized any school your child attends later can easily go online to find the learning goals covered. It is also multidisciplinary rather transdisciplinary which means only subjects that are naturally fit into a theme are used rather than forcing every subject to be in every unit. What is the message here? We should not refer to anything we do not do, so no need to mention IPC or IBO curricula or philosophies.

We use Singapore Maths teaching method based on the national mathematics curriculum used for Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) kindergarten through to Year 7. The term was originally coined to describe an approach, originally developed in Singapore, to teach students to learn and master fewer mathematical concepts at greater detail, as well as having them learn these concepts using a three-step learning process.

The three steps are: concrete, pictorial, and abstract. In the concrete step, students engage in hands-on learning experiences, using concrete objects such as chips, dice, or paper clips. This is followed by drawing pictorial representations of mathematical concepts. In the lower years, we focus mostly on the first two stages. Students then solve mathematical problems in an abstract way by using numbers and symbols.

Is a foreign language available?

As part of our curriculum, we provide Mandarin language instruction three times a week, led by specialised teachers. Students who wish to further enhance their Mandarin language skills are encouraged to participate in our advanced Mandarin Extra Curricular Activity (ECA).

Will you offer more languages?

No, we will not be offering more languages during the school day, as specialist teachers would raise the cost of tuition. However, we may consider language enrichment classes if there is sufficient interest.

What's the Role of Music and Art at Invictus?

Both Music and Art are an integral part of our curriculum and are instructed by dedicated specialist teachers.

What does my child eat for lunch and snack?

Invictus does not have cafeterias on campuses. Hence children will need to bring a packed lunch from home. Alternatively, you can opt for a hot lunch to be delivered to your child at school by contacting Victus Catering.

Children will also be required to bring a healthy snack in everyday for their morning break time.

Do note that Invictus is a NUT-FREE school as we do have students who have life-threatening allergies.

What Are the After-School Activity Options?

Invictus International School provides a range of after-school activities ECAs from 3 pm to 4 pm. These activities may vary by term. Some examples of ECAs include Phonics, Akido, Botany, Advanced Mandarin, Gymnastics, Dance, Yoga, Swimming, Pottery, Sports, and Creative Writing.

What Is the Classroom Student-Teacher Ratio?

In every classroom, we maintain a maximum of 25 students per class. In Key Stage 1 (Years 1 and 2) we provide a teaching assistant per class.

How Can I Observe and Participate in My Child's Educational Progress?

At Invictus International School, we employ an open and transparent reporting system that actively involves parents in their child's educational journey. We utilise modern IT systems, including our "Parent App"; which provides updates on your child's learning and well-being. Additionally, we issue termly academic reports and extend invitations to parents for our Parent-Teacher Conferences (PTCs). We strongly encourage parental engagement in supporting their child's learning path. Our Wellbeing program is designed not only for your child but also for the entire Invictus community, with special events designed to foster collaboration and bring everyone together.

What Is the Purpose and Significance of the Pre-Admissions Assessment?

The pre-admissions assessment serves a crucial role in obtaining a precise understanding of each student's learning requirements as they join our school. This assessment aligns with our Cambridge Curriculum and enables us to gain insights into areas of proficiency that can be further extended, as well as areas where additional support is needed. Following the assessment, the Principal or Deputy Principal will provide a comprehensive explanation to parents, outlining the identified strengths and areas of improvement.

Where Do Your Teachers Hail From?

Our teaching staff come from diverse corners of the globe, having obtained their education from English-medium universities. The majority, if not all, bring with them a wealth of teaching experience, having previously worked in international schools before becoming part of the Invictus team. To ensure that our educational approach remains engaging and tailored to each student's unique requirements, all our educators undergo extensive and ongoing professional development.
